Morally charged vocables are frequently used in Romania to describe the stylistic features of popular music performaces. "Cunning" and "slyness" are specially valued by Roma musicians, while "truth" and "straightness" are supposedly a mark of folkloric authenticity. In this essay I describe how this vocables are used, and how musical ethics might matter for a discussion of morality in general.
